The Excellent Student Camp of the College of Comparative Law was held on Xueyuanlu Campus on 10-12 July, 2022.
Approved by the University, the College began to exquisitely prepare for this year's Summer Camp since mid-June, and received a total of more than 300 applications from undergraduate students all over the country. After the selection procedure, 107 outstanding students from 27 prominent universities, including Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, Jilin University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing University of International Business and Economics University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, East China University of Political Science and Law and CUPL, were enrolled.
Through fierce competition, about 60 excellent students were awarded "Outstanding Member" and "Outstanding Member on the Waiting List". According to the University's admission policy, the College will give priority to outstanding members if they are eligible for their universities' exemption for year 2023 and apply for CUPL for postgraduate studies.
All members of the Camp enrolled on the morning of 10 July. In the afternoon, they took part in the guest lecture Setting Sail and Leaping Forward: Advanced Lecture on the Rule of Law. The dignitaries of the lecture included Vice President of the Beijing Intellectual Property Court & Vice President of the All-China Women's Federation Song Yushui, Vice President and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the People's Insurance Corporation of China Li Zhuyong, Senior Partner of Zhonglun Law Firm Sun Wei, Dean of the College Xie Zhiyong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Comparative Law of the College Zhu Mingzhe. Associate Dean of the College Xie Libin moderated the lecture.
The speakers delivered their speeches on the Training of Foreign-Related Legal Talents from the Demands Prospective, the Training of Internationalized Legal Talents from the Practice of International Dispute Resolution, the Mission and Future of the Training of Foreign-Related Legal Talents and the Original Intention and the Easy Mind of the Training of Foreign-Related Legal Talents to the audiences. They explained the country's needs of the training of foreign-related legal personnel, and pointed out the direction of future career development for the students.
On the afternoon of 11 July, the members of the Camp attended the teacher-student exchange meeting. Associate Dean of the College Liu Chengwei moderated the meeting. Dean Xie Zhiyong introduced the characteristics of the course provided by the College, and focused on the training mode and international feature of the College, especially the establishment of the program of Foreign-Related Legal Talents Training Experimental Class. Chair of the College Council Wang Fang, Associate Dean & Director of the Sino-German Law Institute Xie Libin, Director of the Institute of Comparative Law Bo Yanna and its Deputy Director Wang Zhihua, Director of the China-America Law Institute Feng Kai, Director of the Institute of European Law Zhang Tong, Director of the Institute of Sino-Italian Law and Roman Law Fei Anling, Director of the China-Japan Law Institute Mou Xiankui and teacher representative Pan Deng joined in the discussion.
On the morning of the 11 July, the morning and the afternoon of 12 July, the Camp organized a written examination of law, a comprehensive interview for students who are interested in all directions (Sino-China, Sino-German and the comparison of laws of different countries) and a comprehensive interview for students who are interested in experimental class program. After all examinations, the College issued the graduation certificate to the camp members.
The members believed that through the activities in this summer camp, they had a preliminary understanding of the comparative law discipline and a further understanding of the characteristics of the College and the training mode for postgraduate students. They said that it stimulated their enthusiasm for the study and research of comparative law. The College also hoped that they would enroll in CUPL and join the College next September as a new vibe and play an important role in improving the quality of source of students and the training mode of the College.
