Vice-President Ma Huaide and Vice-President Li Shuzhong of CUPL met with the President of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) & the Former President of the Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands Mr. Kurt Beck on Xueyuanlu Campus on the afternoon of 6 Sept, 2017.
Ma Huaide extended warm welcome to Mr. Beck and the delegation, and then introduced the University’s exchange statues and achievements with Germany via the Sino-German Institute of Law and the China-EU School of Law as the platforms. He especially expressed his gratitude towards the Foundation for its long-term support on the exchange between the University and Germany, and he hoped to deepen the exchange between academic faculty from two parties in the future. Li Shuzhong claimed that the Sino-German Constitution Forum held by the College of Comparative Law has exerted certain influence in the constitution law area in both countries under the support of the Foundation, and it has become an important bridge for the constitution legal exchange between China and Germany.
Mr. Beck appreciated the tight cooperation with CUPL and introduce the aim of the Foundation to enhance education level. He maintained that the communication between Sino-German academics enables their mutual understanding and inspiration and the exchange between the students will lay a solid foundation for the future of the two nations’ friendship.
The FES delegation included the Director-General Dr. Roland Schmidt, Director of International Department Ms. Christiane Kesper, Assistant to the President Mr. Toben Kornmann, Director of Beijing Office Mr. Christoph Pohlmann, Director of Shanghai Office Mr. Stefan Pantekoek and Program Manager of Beijing Office Mr. Zhou Jinghui. Dean of the School of Law Prof. Jiao Hongchang, Deputy Director of Teaching Department A/Prof. Wang Qiang, Associate Dean of the College of Comparative Law & Dean of the Sino-German Institute of Law Prof. Xie Libin, Deputy Dean of the Institute Dr. Clemens Richter and Deputy Director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation Mr. Lyu Yong also attended the meeting.
After the meeting, Mr. Beck gave a lecture on the Unrest World Order—Germany’s Responsibility in European Upheaval to the students. Li Shuzhong provided comments and Jiao Hongchang moderated the lecture.
