The Institute of Comparative Law of the College of Comparative Law and the Institute of Legal History of School of Law of CUPL jointly organized the Symposiumon the Dialogue between East and West Culture on Xueyuanlu Campus on the evening of 14 June, 2016.
Director of the Institute of Comparative Law Prof. Wang Zhihua moderated the meeting. Director of the Institute of Legal History Prof. Cui Linlin and its Deputy Director Prof. Li Chao, Lecturer Pan Deng from the Institute of Comparative Law attended the meeting. Lecturer Guo Shen from the Institute of Legal History and Lecturer Yu Fei from the Institute of Comparative Law were the commentators.
The symposium aimed at exploring the communication and controversy between legal culture in ancient China and western legal tradition. The meeting was divided into three parts, including Chinese and western legal culture presentation, free discussion and summary.
Students Fu Ningxin from Law School and Lyu Zejun from College of Comparative Law respectively presented the legal culture examples of ancient China and western countries. Lecturer Guo Chen and Yu Fei then commented on their presentation.
Teaching faculties and students whose research area are Chinese legal history, foreign countries’ legal history and even foreign languages joined in the discussion, putting forward their unique insights based on their major knowledge.
Prof. Cui Linlin made the symposium conclusion. She claimed that the format and the content of this symposium was effective. She hopes this could become a tradition between the two institutes to enhance academic exchange and mutual development . Prof. Cui Linlin also confirmed that the second symposium on the Dialogue between East and West Culture will be held next term.
