The Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the 19th G20 Summit and paid state visits to Peru and Brazil during 13-21 Nov, 2024. Prior to and during his visit, A/Prof. Pan Deng, from the College, interpreted the rich connotations of China-Latin relations in the new era and looked forward to bright prospects for China-Latin cooperation through his comments and interviews.
Since 11 November, Pan Deng's commentary on the theme ‘China-Latin cooperation pours more certainty into the world’ has been published in the English, Spanish and Portuguese editions of Global Times, a subsidiary of People's Daily. During the visit, his views were quoted by the mainstream media in Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela and several English-language media. The Venezuelan News Agency also reproduced the full text prominently on the front page of its website.
On 17 Nov, the eve of the end of Xi's trip to Peru, CCTV's English Channel carried Pan's commentary article ‘Why China and Latin are a Natural Community of Destiny’ in the form of a commentary feature. The article introduced the fruitful achievements of the China-Latin community of shared future from its vision to reality, explained why the relations between China and Latin are different from the traditional cooperation model, and looked forward to an even more promising decade of the community. The article was re-disseminated on foreign websites, broadcast and social media after being published by the front screen of the channel and pushed by the website.
Before and during the visit, Pan also gave several interviews to the Global Times, on China's economic and trade cooperation with Latin and the Caribbean, the promotion of the signing of a free trade agreement, the joint development of Belt and Road, China's open policy of cooperation with Latin and the Caribbean and the role of the South in global governance. His views were reported in the frontpage on 14, 16 and 20 Novand quoted in the feature article on 19 Nov.
The edition of Chinese Teenagers News on 20 Nov also carried a full-page article by Pan, titled ‘Neighbors on the Other Side of the Earth’. The article was aimed at compulsory education students and aimed to educate teenagers about Peru, Brazil and the South, especially their interactions with China. It is hoped that they could pass on and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Latin.
