The College of Comparative held a series of events during the Orientation Week to welcome year 2017 entering postgraduate students from 5-8 September, 2017.
The College arranged enrollment reception, class temporary conveners meeting, visiting students' accommodation, Term Opening Ceremony and Orientation Day for fully helping newly-enrolled students settling in.
According to the College’s plan, members of the Student Union helped with the layout of enrollment reception at the Wing B on the ground floor of the Research Building on 5 September. They were responsible for ID check, enrolling material collection and fresher’s package distribution. All new students enrolled by 5pm on the day.
The College held class temporary conveners meeting on the afternoon they day. Associate Dean & Secretary of the Party Branch Wang Fang, Deputy Director of College Administration Office & Secretary of the Youth League Committee Liu Ming, Deputy Secretary of the Committee Yang Mingquan, Student Union Representative Hong Jiaqiang and temporary monitors of the new classes attended the meeting. The meeting focused on the work arrangement for orientation week.
Deans of the colleges visited new students’ accommodation on the morning of 6 September. They enquired about the students living needs and reminded the students of personal safety.
The crew of College leadership and the faculty on campus, year 2 student representatives and all 2017 entering students attended the Term Opening Ceremony on the afternoon of 7 September. Wang Fang moderated the meeting. As Dean Gao is currently teaching abroad, Associate Dean Lin Lin presented a welcome remarks on behalf of Gao Xiang. Then Lecturer Huang He, year 2016 entering student Hong Jiaqiang shared their experiences on teaching and studying at the College. Representative of new students Zhang Qiulin talked about her feelings since entered the College.
Later, students and teaching faculty belonging to different institutes held an informal talk separately, allowing the students to be more familiar with teaching, supervising and foreign exchange settings in the College.
The Orientation was held on the morning of 8 September. Liu Ming moderated the meeting. Wang Fang and Lin Lin talked about issues on career choice, studying option, personal safety and international exchange. Then, Liu Ming and Yang Mingquan introduced module choosing, training scheme, supervisor choosing, exchange programs, scholarship and internship to the students.
