At the invitation of the College, Professor Cheng Jiarui, former Dean of the Law School of Soochow University, gave a lecture on the Recent Development of Comparative Law: a Challenge for Legal Education in Asia as the first of the serial celebrating lectures on the 10th Anniversary of the College of Comparative Law on Xueyuanlu Campus on the afternoon of 28 March, 2019.
Dean of the College Prof. Xie Zhiyong moderated the lecture. Prof. Gao Xiang and Prof. Wang Zhihua from the College were the commentators. Prof. Zhang Tong and A/Prof. Li Xiaohui attended the lecture.
In the two-hour lecture, through analyzing the current trade disputes between China and the US and the trends in high-end domestic forums, Prof. Cheng shared recent development of comparative law and revealed the development tendency of the state’s policy as well as its imperious demands of comparative law elites.
He then suggested new directions for the development of comparative law, based on research approaches to the discipline including traditional territorial division and afterwards functional division, combing policy-oriented and international law-oriented. He also shared opinions on issues focusing on the development of Belt and Road and mainstream international trade deal.
