Orientation Week held

The College of Comparative held a series of events during the Orientation Week to welcome year 2018 entering postgraduate students from 4-7 September.

In accordance with the University’s requirements and the College’s features, the College arranged enrollment reception, class temporary conveners meeting, visits to students' accommodation, Term Opening Ceremony, Orientation Day and Exchange Meetings with experienced students for fully helping newly-enrolled students settling in.

According to the College’s plan, members of the Student Union helped with the layout of enrollment reception at the Wing B on the ground floor of the Research Building on 4 Sept. They were responsible for ID check, enrolling material collection and fresher’s package distribution.

The College held class temporary conveners meeting on the afternoon they day. Deputy Director of College Administration Office & Secretary of the Youth League Committee Liu Ming and Deputy Secretary of the Committee Yang Mingquan and temporary monitors of the new classes attended the meeting. The meeting focused on the work arrangement for orientation week.

The crew of College leadership, the faculty on campus, year 2 student representatives and all 2018 entering students attended the Term Opening Ceremony on the morning of 6 Sept. Secretary of the Party Branch & Associate Dean Wang Fang moderated the meeting.

Year 2017 entering student Zhang Lanyu shared her experience on studying at the College. Representative of new students Yang Kunlin talked about his feelings since entered the College. Then A/Prof. He Qihao extended his wishes and advices to the students on behalf of the teaching faculty. Last, Dean Xie Zhiyong presented the closing remarks.

Later, students and teaching faculty belonging to different institutes held an informal talk separately, allowing the students to be more familiar with teaching, supervising and foreign exchange settings in the College.

The Orientation was held on the afternoon of 6 Sept. Liu Ming moderated the meeting. Wang Fang and Associate Dean Lin Lin talked about issues on career choice, studying option, personal safety and international exchange. Then, Liu Ming, Yang Mingquan and Li Li from the College administration office introduced module choosing, training scheme, supervisor choosing, exchange programs, scholarship and internship to the students.

Later on the day, Deans of the College visited new students’ accommodation. They enquired about the students living needs and reminded the students of personal safety.

The College also held a student meeting especially for the new students to exchange with the year 2 and 3 students on studying, internship and work orientation on the morning of 7 Sept.
